Following on from the LED thread. I am seeing this at three separate cultivation clients now and I
think it is the defining load characteristic of the sector post-LED.
A mature flower room transpires an enormous amount of water. That moisture has to be removed
continuously or you lose the crop to mold. Dehumidification runs 24 hours regardless of whether the
lights are on, which means it is a baseload, not a peak-coincident load.
Consequences for auditing:
Load factor at these facilities is very high, often above 0.8, which is unusual for commercial
accounts and changes which rate schedules are advantageous.
The overnight load is not small. On one client the lights-off period is 55 percent of the lights-on
period. If you are used to seeing commercial buildings go quiet at night you will misread this.
Time of use rates look attractive on lighting alone and much less attractive once you account for the
fact that the dehumidification load does not move.
