New client in suburban Chicago on ComEd. Pulled their billing history and 18 out of the last 24 months are estimated reads. The meter is in a locked electrical room in the basement and apparently the meter reader can never get access. The estimates are all flat - same kWh every month - but this is a seasonal business (indoor sports facility) with huge summer AC load. They've been massively underbilled in summer and overbilled in winter. What's the best approach to get this corrected?
Estimated bill nightmare - ComEd client with 18 months of estimates
First step is to get an actual read on the meter ASAP. Call ComEd and schedule a special read - the client needs to make sure someone is there to let the reader in. Once you have an actual read, ComEd will true-up the account. The question is whether the true-up helps or hurts your client. If they've been underbilled overall, the catch-up bill could be painful.
