Got a panicked call from a client in Manhattan. ConEd moved them to a time-of-use rate last month and their bill went from $4,800 to $9,200. They're a bakery that runs ovens from 3 AM to noon. Turns out the super-peak period starts at 8 AM and their heaviest usage falls right in it. Need to figure out if they can opt out or if we need to help them shift their production schedule.

ConEd TOU rates - client's bill doubled after switching
ConEd's TOU implementation has been a mess for small commercial. A lot of businesses got switched automatically without understanding the implications. Your bakery client might be able to request a return to the flat rate - ConEd has a 60-day window to switch back after the first TOU bill. Check the tariff for the opt-out provision.
