Looking to attend a conference or trade show where I can network with other auditors and potential clients. What events do you all recommend?
Best conferences for utility bill auditors?
BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) conferences are excellent for meeting potential clients. Property managers attend in large numbers and they control a lot of commercial utility accounts. I've picked up clients at every BOMA event I've attended.
IFMA (International Facility Management Association) is another good one. Facilities managers are your direct buyers. Also look into your state's commercial real estate association events — less travel, more local networking.
Both BOMA and IFMA are excellent. For meeting other auditors specifically, the AAUBA events are obviously the best fit. We also see members at AEE (Association of Energy Engineers) conferences. The key with any conference: don't just attend — speak. Even a 15-minute presentation on "Hidden Costs in Commercial Utility Bills" positions you as an expert and generates more leads than a week of cold calling.
Love the idea of speaking. Going to look into BOMA and see if they accept presentation proposals. Thanks everyone.
