Small retail client billed under wrong rate class for 18 months

Need some advice on a situation I've uncovered. Small restaurant client in Kansas City has been billed on Evergy's General Service rate (Schedule GS) instead of the Small General Service rate (Schedule SGS) for the past 18 months. Usage averages about 2,800 kWh/month which should qualify for SGS. The difference is about $185/month in demand charges they shouldn't be paying. Client says they never requested the rate change and their usage profile hasn't changed. What's the best approach for getting this corrected and recovering the overcharges?
This is a great find! With Evergy, you'll want to file a formal billing dispute for the overcharges. Document that the client's usage consistently qualifies for SGS (under 3,000 kWh and 10 kW demand typically). Request a rate analysis from Evergy showing they should have been on SGS all along. The utility will usually credit back 2-3 years of overcharges once they verify the error. Make sure to also request that they switch the account to the correct rate going forward. Your client should see about $3,330 in refunds plus ongoing monthly savings of $185. Nice work catching this!
