Duke Energy Carolinas has a big rate case pending. They're proposing to restructure several commercial rate schedules, including changing demand thresholds. Anytime demand thresholds change, existing accounts can end up on the wrong rate. Watch for the final order and check every client on Duke as soon as the new rates take effect.
In addition to Duke, keep an eye on Ameren Illinois, Xcel Energy Colorado, and Dominion Virginia — all have rate cases pending or expected. The general trend is rate increases plus restructuring. When rates restructure, the billing system has to be reprogrammed and that's when errors get introduced. The first 6 months after a rate case is implemented is prime audit season for that utility's territory.
