2025 rate increases — what we're seeing

Anyone else getting calls from clients panicking about rate increases? Georgia Power's 2025 rate case just approved a 12% increase for commercial customers. I'm getting calls from clients I haven't heard from in years asking me to re-audit their bills. Rate increases are good for our business — every increase makes existing errors more expensive and motivates clients to pay attention to their bills for the first time.
Same in Pennsylvania. PPL just got an 8% increase approved and my phone has been ringing. I've signed 4 new clients in the past 3 weeks, all motivated by rate shock. When rates go up, the dollar value of every error goes up proportionally. A rate classification error that was costing $200/month at the old rate might cost $225/month at the new rate. Clients who ignored $200/month will pay attention to $225/month.
Rate increase periods are the best prospecting windows in our business. Clients are actively looking at their bills for the first time in years, they're motivated to reduce costs, and the word "audit" sounds appealing instead of unnecessary. If you're not reaching out to prospects during rate increase announcements, you're missing the easiest sales window of the year.
Just signed two new clients in Tulsa after PSO announced a 9% increase. Both said the same thing: "I never looked at my utility bills until they went up." Music to our ears.
