Follow-up on my earlier post about franchise fees. Sales tax is being charged even though the client has a valid exemption certificate on file. Client''s been paying $9,400 too much every month since 2023.

Nice find. I''ve started using the AAUBA audit workbook to cross-reference these calculations and it saves a ton of time.
Be careful with TECO Energy''s refund process — they sometimes try to limit the lookback period to 2 years.
Had the exact same problem with FirstEnergy last year. Took about 18 months to resolve but got full refund.
