Hey everyone! Just wanted to share some highlights from our Atlanta chapter meetup last week. We had 14 members show up at the Marriott downtown. Main topic was Georgia Power's new GSA-4 schedule changes and how they're affecting our commercial clients. Derek presented some great case studies on demand ratchet issues. Thanks to everyone who attended and especially Phil G. for driving down from Richmond!
Great meeting Rachel! That GSA-4 discussion was eye-opening. I've got three clients in Virginia that could benefit from similar analysis. The demand ratchet calculation you showed saved one client $8,400 annually. Would love to get copies of those spreadsheets if possible.
Phil's right - excellent presentation on the GSA schedules. I've been wrestling with similar issues here in Charlotte with Duke Energy's SGS-TOU rates. The methodology you outlined should work for our situation too. When's the next meetup planned?
Derek, I'll email you those spreadsheets tomorrow. For the next meetup, we're looking at September - probably around the 15th. Want to focus on power factor penalties and capacitor bank sizing. I've got a hospital client that just got hit with $12,000 in penalties.
Count me in for September! That power factor topic is timely - Alabama Power just revised their penalty structure. Some of my manufacturing clients are seeing 15% increases in their bills. Would be great to compare notes with other southeastern utilities.
Val, we're seeing similar issues with TVA here in Knoxville. The new power factor requirements are brutal for older facilities. I'd love to join you guys in Atlanta for the September meeting if that's okay. It's only a 4-hour drive.
Terry, absolutely! The more perspectives we have, the better. I'll send out formal invites in August with the exact date and location. This power factor discussion could turn into a really valuable session.
Perfect! Rachel, can you also include some info on capacitor maintenance? I've got a client whose capacitor bank failed and they got slammed with penalties for three months before anyone noticed. Proper monitoring procedures would be a great addition to the agenda.
