Charter/Spectrum overcharging for internet speeds - how to verify?

New to telecom auditing here in Greenville, SC. I have a client paying Charter/Spectrum $850/month for 500 Mbps business internet, but when I run speed tests I'm only seeing about 200-250 Mbps consistently. Is this grounds for billing adjustment? How do you properly document internet speed issues for carrier disputes? The client has been paying this rate for over two years so there could be significant recovery potential.
Wesley, speed testing can be tricky evidence for billing disputes. Charter/Spectrum typically includes language in their service agreements about "up to" speeds rather than guaranteed minimums. However, if you're consistently seeing less than 50% of advertised speeds, that could indicate a service delivery problem. I'd recommend running speed tests from multiple devices at different times over several weeks to build a solid data set. Also check if they're throttling during peak hours.
In Omaha, I've had mixed success with speed-based disputes against Charter. The key is proving the speed issues are on their network, not the client's equipment or internal network. I use a dedicated speed test device connected directly to their modem to eliminate variables. Also request service quality reports from Charter showing their network performance metrics. If they can't deliver contracted speeds due to infrastructure limitations, that's grounds for rate adjustment or service level credits.
