Thinking about expanding into Spectrum Business audits here in Spokane. They seem to have grabbed a lot of market share from CenturyLink lately. Anyone had success auditing Spectrum business accounts? Their residential billing is notoriously messy so wondering if business side has similar issues.
Spectrum Business - anyone having success?
Ted, I've done a few Spectrum audits in Boise with mixed results. Their business billing is definitely cleaner than residential, but still plenty of errors. Found a client paying for static IP addresses they weren't actually assigned. $450/month for 18 months. The challenge is their customer service - they outsource everything and reps don't understand their own tariffs.
Pete's right about customer service being awful. I avoid Spectrum unless the client is really motivated to fight. Their dispute process takes forever and they require everything in writing. That said, the equipment rental overcharges are common - always check if they're billing for modems the client owns.
Good points about customer service. What about their internet speed provisioning? Seeing some complaints locally about businesses not getting advertised speeds. Is that auditable or just "network congestion" excuses?
Speed issues are tricky to audit because most contracts have "up to" language. But if you can document consistent underperformance over time, especially during non-peak hours, you might have a case for service credits. The key is thorough documentation and understanding their SLA terms.
Ted, one thing to watch for with Spectrum Business is their promotion rolloff charges. They often sign clients up with promotional rates that expire after 12 months, but don't properly notify about the rate increase. I've seen bills jump from $89/month to $179/month with no warning. Always review the rate history for unexpected jumps.
