CUBA certification - worth it for junior staff?

Considering sending two junior auditors for CUBA certification but the cost is steep for our small firm here in Shreveport. Working mostly SWEPCO and Entergy Louisiana accounts. Those of you who've put junior staff through the program - do you see immediate ROI or is this more of a long-term investment? The certification fees plus travel and lodging add up fast.
Tyrone, I sent my junior auditor for CUBA certification last year and it was worth every penny. The structured curriculum filled knowledge gaps that on-the-job training missed. Here with Avista in Spokane, she's now handling complex industrial accounts independently. The initial cost stings but the improved billable capacity pays it back within 18 months.
Willa's right about the knowledge gaps. The CUBA program covers utility regulations and rate structures in much more depth than most of us teach in-house. I've found certified auditors make fewer mistakes and need less supervision. That alone justifies the investment. Plus clients are starting to ask about certifications when selecting audit firms.
The market differentiation is becoming real. Here in New Orleans, I've won two major contracts specifically because we have CUBA-certified auditors on staff. Clients see it as quality assurance. The program also keeps your people current on industry changes - worth it just for the continuing education aspect with all these grid modernization initiatives.
Juan makes a good point about industry changes. The utility landscape is evolving so fast with smart meters and time-of-use rates becoming standard. CUBA certification ensures your staff understands these new billing methodologies. Here in Knoxville with TVA, I'm seeing rate structures I've never encountered before. The training is essential.
One thing to consider is the confidence factor. My CUBA-certified junior auditor handles client meetings and utility disputes much better than before. The credential gives them authority when dealing with utility personnel and clients. Here in Tucson with TEP, that confidence translates directly to better dispute resolution outcomes.
