Question about interval data retention with smart meters

MLGW recently installed Itron smart meters at several of my client locations here in Memphis. I'm trying to understand their data retention policies for the 15-minute interval readings. How long do utilities typically store this granular usage data? I need historical interval data going back 18 months for a billing dispute but MLGW claims they only keep detailed intervals for 13 months. Is this standard practice or are they just being difficult? What's been your experience with other utilities?
Amir, data retention varies widely between utilities. Dominion Virginia Power keeps 15-minute interval data for 24 months in their active billing system, but they archive older data that can be retrieved with advance notice. The key is asking specifically about archived data storage. Many utilities automatically delete detailed intervals after 12-18 months from their primary systems but maintain backup archives for several years. You might need to file a formal data request through their regulatory affairs department.
NV Energy here in Las Vegas keeps interval data for 36 months in their billing system, but you have to pay $75 for historical data reports beyond 12 months. It's worth checking if Tennessee has any regulatory requirements for data retention. Some states mandate minimum retention periods for billing-related records. Also try contacting the Tennessee Regulatory Authority - they might be able to pressure MLGW to provide the data if it's needed for a legitimate billing dispute.
