Been working ERCOT market settlement disputes for the past two years and the error rate seems to be increasing. Just found $298K in incorrect congestion charges for a client with multiple sites across Texas. The ERCOT settlement team keeps blaming "system upgrades" but these are basic calculation errors on LMP differences. Anyone else seeing an uptick in ERCOT settlement mistakes since 2022?
Anyone else notice ERCOT settlement errors getting worse?
Rick - we've definitely seen more ERCOT issues lately. Working a case now where they miscalculated ancillary service charges for 8 months straight. The congestion charge errors seem especially bad in the Houston zone. Wonder if it's related to their new settlement system they deployed last year?
Rick and Lucille - I've been tracking this trend too. ERCOT settlement accuracy has definitely declined since their IT modernization project. The good news is they're usually cooperative about fixing errors once you can document them properly. Rick, that $298K recovery sounds like it involved multiple settlement periods - were you able to get interest on the delayed refunds?
