Working PG&E territory here in San Jose and struggling with client retention after the initial audit. I find savings, client is happy, they implement changes, then they disappear until they have another problem. How do you keep clients engaged long-term? Most of my revenue is still from one-time audits but I know ongoing relationships would be more profitable. Recently helped a tech company save $42,000 annually on their demand charges but haven't heard from them since they got their first lower bill.
Client retention strategies that actually work
Pete, I set up monthly monitoring reports for all my major clients here in Huntsville. TVA rates can change and I send a brief email each month showing their current savings vs baseline, any rate changes that might affect them, and recommendations for the coming season. Takes about 15 minutes per client but keeps me top of mind. Clients appreciate the ongoing attention and I catch issues before they become expensive problems.
Also, I offer an annual "health check" service for $500-1000 depending on the client size. Review their past year of bills, look for new opportunities, verify they're still getting the savings we projected. About 60% of my clients take this option and it often leads to finding additional savings they didn't know existed.
