Got approached by an energy consulting firm here in Nebraska who wants to partner on larger OPPD accounts. They're asking for access to our client database and historical audit findings to "better serve mutual clients." This feels like they're trying to mine our client relationships. How much information do you all typically share with consulting partners? I'm inclined to keep our client data completely separate.
Consultant wants access to our client files - how much to share?
Ken, I'd be very careful about that. Sounds like they want to use your client relationships to build their own book of business. I've never shared client files with outside consultants unless there was a specific signed agreement for a particular project. Your client data is your most valuable asset - protect it accordingly.
Elmer's right to be cautious. Here in Ohio I've seen consultants approach auditors just to get access to their client lists. If you do work together, keep it project-specific with clear boundaries on information sharing. Never give blanket access to your database - that's just asking for trouble down the road.
