Working with a large industrial client in East Tennessee on TVA Schedule MSB. Trying to establish solid benchmarks for their industry sector (automotive parts manufacturing). TVA's rate structure is pretty unique and I'm having trouble finding comparable benchmarking data. Anyone have good sources for TVA industrial usage benchmarks? DOE data seems too generic for this application.
TVA industrial benchmarks - anyone have good data sources?
Gary - I'm in Memphis so deal with TVA a lot. For automotive manufacturing I usually reference the Oak Ridge National Lab industrial assessments. They have some good TVA-specific data from their manufacturing energy audits. Also worth checking with TVA's Economic Development team - they sometimes share anonymized usage data for benchmarking purposes.
Not TVA territory here in Kansas but I've found the Manufacturing Energy Consumption Survey (MECS) from EIA can be useful if you normalize for regional factors. What's the client's load factor and demand profile looking like? Sometimes the benchmarking issue isn't the total usage but the demand pattern.
Amir - thanks, I'll reach out to TVA Economic Development. Rachel, load factor is running about 0.72 which seems reasonable for automotive. Contract demand is 3.2MW on Schedule MSB. The usage itself isn't terrible but client wants to see how they stack up against similar facilities before investing in efficiency upgrades.
Gary, if you're still looking for TVA benchmarks, I recently used the Tennessee Department of Economic Development's energy database for a similar project. They have some manufacturing sector data that's TVA-specific. Also check if your client qualifies for TVA's EnergyRight program - they provide benchmarking as part of their assessment process.
