Heads up everyone - found a competitive supplier in Arizona that's charging clients for services they're not actually providing. The supplier, Southwest Energy Solutions, is billing a "demand response credit" of $2.50/kW but the client isn't enrolled in any demand response programs. APS confirmed they have no record of this supplier providing any demand response services. Client was overpaying about $3,100 per month for phantom services.
APS competitive supplier scam alert
Sarah - that sounds like outright fraud. Have you contacted the Arizona Corporation Commission? They regulate competitive suppliers and take this kind of thing very seriously. Also might be worth alerting other auditors who work in APS territory to watch for this.
David - already filed a complaint with ACC and they're investigating. The supplier has gone radio silent since we confronted them about the fraudulent charges. Client is switching back to APS default service and pursuing legal action for the overcharges. Thanks for the advice.
