Alabama Power Schedule TOU-8 weekend rate confusion

Quick question for anyone familiar with Alabama Power's TOU-8 schedule. The tariff language about weekend rates is confusing - it says weekends are "generally off-peak" but then mentions exceptions for certain hours. One of my Birmingham clients got charged peak rates on a Saturday afternoon last month and I'm trying to figure out if this was correct or an error. The bill shows peak charges from 2-6 PM on Saturday which seems wrong based on my reading of the tariff.
Val, I think Alabama Power's TOU-8 treats Saturday afternoons as peak during summer months only. The weekend exception applies from June through September when air conditioning loads are highest. April should still be all off-peak on weekends though. Sounds like your client got charged incorrectly. I'd call Alabama Power's commercial billing department and ask them to explain the Saturday peak charges. They should be able to pull up the specific tariff provisions that justify those rates.
Zach, thanks for the clarification. You're right - April should be off-peak weekends. I called Alabama Power and they admitted the Saturday charges were applied incorrectly. Apparently their billing system had a programming error that extended summer weekend peak hours into spring months. They're issuing a credit for the overcharge and supposedly fixing the system. Just another example of why we need to verify every TOU bill carefully.
