Quick question for the group - anyone know if monthly generator testing at hospitals should trigger demand charges? HCA facility in Nashville is seeing huge demand spikes on their Duke Energy bill every month, always on the same day. Thinking it's related to their backup generator load tests.

Hospital Emergency Generator Testing Charges
Stuart, that's exactly what it is. Most utilities will waive demand charges for emergency generator testing if you coordinate with them in advance. Have the facility contact Duke's commercial department to set up a testing window.
Patricia's right - this is a common oversight. The hospital should also check their tariff schedule. Some utilities have specific provisions for medical facility testing that can eliminate those demand hits entirely. Could save thousands per year.
Perfect! Called Duke this morning and they confirmed they have a medical facility testing program. Just need to submit a schedule 30 days in advance. Thanks everyone!
