Got contacted by a state corrections department about auditing a medium-security prison. They're interested but mentioned security clearance requirements and restricted access to certain areas. Anyone dealt with correctional facilities before? The energy usage must be interesting - 24/7 lighting, security systems, perimeter fencing, kitchens, laundry, medical facilities.

Prison facility audit - security clearance issues
Did one in Arizona about two years ago. Background check took 6 weeks and you can't bring any electronics inside. All the meter data has to be provided by their facilities team. Load profile was surprisingly flat - similar to hospitals with that 24/7 base load.
Good to know about the electronics restriction Lucille. Did you find any specific rate optimization opportunities? I assume they qualify for some kind of government or institutional rate.
They were on an industrial rate when they should have been on the state government schedule. Saved them about $3,200/month just from the rate change. Also found some billing errors on their water heating loads - prisons use massive amounts of hot water.
