Working with a 2,000-bed county correctional facility on Georgia Power. They're interested in demand response programs but worried about security implications of load curtailment. Anyone dealt with correctional facilities in DR programs?

County jail facility - demand response program eligibility
Wanda - correctional facilities can participate but with restrictions. Usually limited to non-critical loads like HVAC setbacks, lighting reductions, or shifting laundry operations. Security systems, medical, and communications are obviously off-limits.
We had success with a state prison in Alabama. They participate in curtailable rate programs by reducing kitchen equipment loads and adjusting HVAC in non-housing areas. Saved about $35,000 annually without compromising security operations.
That's exactly what they're looking for. Georgia Power has a similar curtailable option. Going to focus on kitchen and administrative building loads first. Thanks for the guidance!
Good approach. Just make sure the facility's security protocols are documented in any DR agreement. Utilities are usually very accommodating once they understand the operational constraints of correctional facilities.
