Working on a 400-bed hospital campus with 14 separate meters across main building, parking garage, medical office building, and emergency generator. Duke Energy has them on three different rate schedules and I'm finding demand charges that don't make sense. Anyone dealt with complex hospital billing like this before?

St. Mary's Hospital - multiple meter nightmare
Brian - hospitals are tricky because of the 24/7 load and emergency systems. Check if they're getting the proper healthcare rate classification. Many utilities have special Schedule H or Medical rates that can save significant money on demand charges.
Also look at the emergency generator billing. Sometimes utilities double-charge for standby service when the hospital already has backup power. Found a $2,800/month error on that at a client in Charlotte last year.
Good catches! Found they're on General Service when they should qualify for Medical Rate M-1. Generator issue is exactly what's happening - they're paying standby charges plus emergency service fees. Thanks for the direction!
