Grocery chain audit - 180 stores, found patterns but no savings

Completed a 6-month audit of a grocery chain with 180 locations across the Southeast. Found consistent billing patterns and rate structures, but honestly didn't uncover significant savings opportunities. Their previous energy consultant did a thorough job. Anyone else ever finish a big portfolio audit with minimal findings? Feeling like I failed the client.
James, don't beat yourself up. Sometimes a clean audit result IS the value. You've validated their energy management is working properly, which gives management confidence. I had a similar experience with a hotel chain - only found $15K across 200 properties, but the client was thrilled to know they weren't bleeding money.
Ed's right. Plus you've created a baseline for future audits and identified the processes that are working well. Document everything so the next auditor (or you in 2-3 years) knows what's already been optimized. That's valuable intelligence for the client's energy management program.
Thanks guys, that helps put it in perspective. The client did seem relieved to get confirmation their systems are working. I'll focus on the process documentation and trend analysis in my final report. Sometimes no news is good news I guess.
