Just finished year one of a major hotel chain audit - 127 properties across 18 states. Found demand charge issues at 89% of locations, mostly Schedule GS-2 vs TOU-GSD problems. Recovered $1.2M so far with another $800K pending utility review. The scale of these portfolio audits is incredible but the patterns are so consistent once you know what to look for.
Hotel chain audit - 127 properties, massive findings
Wow Marilyn, those are huge numbers! What's your process for prioritizing which sites to tackle first? With that many locations I imagine you can't hit them all at once.
Greg, I start with highest kWh usage and work down. Also prioritize any sites on older rate schedules since those often have the biggest savings opportunities. The hotel company provided usage data upfront which made triage much easier.
Great work Marilyn. Hotel chains are goldmines if you can get in. The consistency you mentioned is key - once you find the pattern at a few properties, you can quickly scan the rest for similar issues. That $1.2M recovery speaks volumes about the value we bring to multi-site clients.
This gives me hope for the 45-location restaurant chain I just signed. Much smaller scale but hoping to find similar patterns across their sites.
