Interruptible Rate Horror Story - Duke Energy

Just finished an audit for a steel foundry in Charlotte on Duke Energy's Schedule I-12 interruptible rate. They've been getting curtailment calls but somehow still paying full demand charges. Found out they never properly enrolled in the curtailment program despite signing up 3 years ago. Duke says it's too late to fix retroactively.
Donna, that's brutal. I've seen Duke mess up interruptible enrollments before. Did you check if they have any documentation showing they requested enrollment? Sometimes the utility's internal communication breaks down between sales and operations.
Carl's onto something. I had a similar case with a plastic manufacturer in Raleigh. Found the original enrollment request email and Duke eventually credited back 18 months. The key was proving the customer did everything required on their end.
I'll dig deeper into their records. The facility manager is pretty sure they submitted all the paperwork, but Duke claims they never received the load curtailment test results. This could be a $40K recovery if we can prove it.
Keep us updated Donna. These interruptible rate cases can be complex but they're often worth the fight. Document the timeline carefully and don't let Duke brush this off as "customer error" without solid proof.
