Working with a plastics manufacturer in Atlanta on Georgia Power Schedule TOU-GSD-7 and I'm seeing conflicting information about transformer ownership credits. Client owns their 1500kVA pad-mount transformer but only getting $2.40/kW credit instead of the $3.85/kW shown in the tariff. Anyone dealt with Georgia Power on this recently?
Transformer ownership credit confusion at Georgia Power
Georgia Power changed their transformer credit calculation in 2017. The $3.85 rate only applies to transformers installed before 2015. New ownership gets the reduced credit unfortunately. Check the effective date on your client's transformer installation.
Steve's right about the date cutoff. I had a similar issue with a food processing plant in Columbus last year. Georgia Power grandfather clause protects older installations but new ones get hit with the lower credit. Worth filing a complaint if the transformer predates 2015 though.
Thanks both - checked and their transformer was installed in 2016 so looks like we're stuck with the lower rate. Still saved them $8,400 annually just by getting the credit applied correctly. Sometimes it's the small wins!
