Got a daycare center in Phoenix paying $2,100/month on APS Schedule E-32 (large commercial). They're only pulling 65kW peak demand and maybe 15,000 kWh monthly. Seems like they should be on small commercial Schedule E-20. Anyone dealt with childcare facilities before? Is the savings worth pursuing or are there gotchas I'm missing?
Preschool on commercial rate - worth the switch?
I've done several daycares and they're usually straightforward. That demand level screams wrong rate class to me. APS E-20 would save them probably $300-400/month. The tricky part is they sometimes have weird equipment - big commercial washers, kitchen equipment that spikes demand. Make sure you check their load profile first.
Ed's right about the equipment spikes. Had one daycare in Tucson that had three washers and two dryers all starting up at the same time every morning. Killed them on demand charges. But at 65kW they're definitely overpaying. I'd say go for it - worst case you find nothing, best case you save them real money.
Thanks both. I'll pull a year of interval data first to check for any surprise spikes. Appreciate the heads up on laundry equipment - hadn't considered that angle.
