Client owns 4 pizza franchises across metro Atlanta. Each location bills separately but Georgia Power consolidated them under one account number somehow. Now they're all on large commercial rate when 2 locations should be small commercial. Utility says they can't separate them. This is a mess.
Franchise owner with 4 locations - billing consolidation issues
Georgia Power loves consolidating accounts for "customer convenience" then screwing up the rate schedules. You'll need to request account separation in writing. Reference their service rules section about individual meter billing.
George is spot on. Also document each location's individual usage patterns. If two qualify for different rate schedules, they have to honor that. Might take a complaint to PSC but Georgia Power usually caves before it gets that far.
Filed the separation request. Utility rep says it'll take 60-90 days to process. Meanwhile they're overcharging about $800/month on the wrong rate. Can I claim retroactive adjustments?
Absolutely. Document everything and request retroactive billing corrections back to when the consolidation started. They created the problem, they need to fix it properly.
