Seasonal business billing anomalies

Working with a seasonal ice cream shop in Ocean City - they're only open April through October. ConEd keeps them on the same rate schedule year-round even though winter usage drops to almost nothing. Bill goes from $2,800/month in summer to $340/month in winter. Are there better rate options for seasonal businesses?
Tony, most utilities don't have specific seasonal rates for small commercial. But check if they qualify for any interruptible or time-of-use schedules during peak season. Also make sure they're not paying demand charges during closed months - that's pure waste.
Good point Warren. Looking at the bills now, they're definitely paying some level of demand charges even in January when the place is shuttered. That seems wrong. I'll dig into whether ConEd has any provisions for seasonal disconnection or standby rates.
