Local church asked me to look at their Duke Energy bill. About $2,200/month average, spikes to $3,800 in summer with AC. They're on Schedule SGS. Seems like a straightforward general service account but wondering if there are any church-specific issues I should watch for?
Church account - worth the effort?
Churches can be tricky Paul. Check if they qualify for any nonprofit rates or exemptions first. Also watch for seasonal patterns - many have events that spike usage unpredictably. Found one in Atlanta that was getting hit with demand charges from their monthly fish fry.
Had a church client in Ohio - their biggest issue was outdoor lighting being on the wrong tariff. They had parking lot lighting on general service instead of outdoor lighting rate. Saved them about $180/month once we got it switched.
Thanks Juan and Albert. I'll check their outdoor lighting setup and see if Duke has any nonprofit schedules available. For $2,200/month it's worth a thorough look even if the savings are modest.
