I'm looking at a potential client with 8 small retail locations, each running about $1,800-2,400/month with ConEd. Owner says they've never had their bills reviewed. Anyone work with small retail chains before - is it worth pursuing or should I focus on bigger fish?
Small retail accounts - worth the time?
Michelle, I'd say go for it if you can bundle them all together. Small retail is notorious for being on the wrong rate schedule - I've seen boutiques on residential rates pulling $2K+/month. The volume game works if you can find consistent errors across multiple locations.
Norm's right about rate schedule errors. Just closed a case with a small clothing chain - 6 locations, all incorrectly classified as Schedule SC-1 instead of SC-9. Recovered $14K total over 3 years. Not huge individual amounts but adds up quick.
Thanks both! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'll pitch them on auditing all locations as a package deal.
