Working with a 5,000 sq ft office building that's been getting slammed with demand charges the past 8 months. Monthly bills jumped from $1,400 to $2,100. ComEd has them on Schedule GS-2 but wondering if they qualify for a different rate that doesn't penalize demand as heavily.
Small office building constantly hitting demand charges
Check their load factor and see if they installed new equipment around when the charges started. Sometimes small offices add server rooms or upgraded HVAC without realizing the demand impact. Might be an operational fix rather than a tariff issue.
ComEd has a few small commercial rates. If their peak demand is consistently under 100kW, they might qualify for Rate SC-3 which has lower demand charges. Worth checking their interval data to see usage patterns.
Great suggestions - I'll pull their interval data and check what happened 8 months ago. The timing is too coincidental to be just a rate issue. Thanks for the direction!
