Duke approved my $6,800 claim but offering credit instead of refund. Client wants the cash. Do I have any leverage to demand a check instead? What's been your experience with Duke on this?

Duke usually defaults to credits but they'll cut a check if you push. Reference their tariff - most allow customers to request cash refunds for amounts over $50. Might need to get a supervisor involved but it's doable.
Had this exact situation last month. Called and said the customer was closing the account and moving. They processed a refund check within 2 weeks. Sometimes you need a business reason for the cash.
