Filed a formal complaint with Georgia Power 6 weeks ago for a $12,400 demand billing error going back 18 months. They acknowledged receipt but haven't responded since. At what point do I escalate to the Georgia PSC? Client is getting antsy about the delay.
Georgia Power formal complaint - how long should I wait?
Georgia Power usually takes 60-90 days for formal complaints in my experience. If you're past 60 days, send a follow-up email referencing your case number and threatening PSC escalation. That usually gets them moving.
I had a similar situation last year with them - $8,200 overcharge. Took them 11 weeks to respond but they paid the full amount plus interest. The threat of PSC involvement definitely helps speed things up.
Georgia Power is actually one of the better ones for paying legitimate claims, they're just slow. At 6 weeks I'd send a professional follow-up noting their tariff requires response within 30 days. If no response by week 8, file with PSC. Document everything for your client.
Thanks everyone. Will send the follow-up email tomorrow and give them 2 more weeks. At least I can tell the client this is normal timing for them.
