Video Testimonials vs Written - Worth the Extra Effort?

I'm debating whether to ask my best client to do a video testimonial. Written testimonials are easier to get but I've read that video converts much better. Is it worth the awkwardness of asking a client to go on camera?
I have 3 video testimonials on my website and they absolutely outperform written ones. The engagement on those pages is significantly higher. But you're right that it's awkward to ask. What worked for me was framing it as: I'm putting together some client success stories for my website - would you be willing to do a quick 2-minute video call where I ask you a few questions? Making it a short Zoom recording lowered the barrier.
I tried this once and the client was so stiff on camera it was almost worse than no testimonial. Some people just aren't comfortable on video. I'd say only ask clients who are naturally personable and enthusiastic about the results you got them.
Video is powerful but quality matters. A poorly lit, awkward video testimonial does more harm than good. If you go this route, prep your client with 3-4 questions ahead of time so they're not caught off guard. Keep it under 90 seconds. And if it doesn't come out well, just use the audio as a written quote instead. No harm done.
