Question for the group - do you process multiple accounts in batches (same utility, same time period) or work through each account completely before moving to the next? Looking to optimize our workflow for larger clients with multiple locations.
Workflow efficiency: batch processing vs account-by-account?
The key is having good tracking systems regardless of approach. I use spreadsheets to track which accounts have been reviewed, what issues were found, and what follow-up is needed.
Great discussion. I think it depends on the complexity of the accounts too. Simple retail locations can be batched easily, but complex industrial accounts need individual attention for their specific contract terms and usage patterns.
I do account-by-account because I like to give each location my full attention. Found that batching made me miss account-specific issues. But I can see how it would be faster for routine checks.
Randy - I batch by utility and time period. Much more efficient to have all the tariff schedules and rate changes fresh in your mind when reviewing similar accounts. Cut my processing time by about 30%.
Hybrid approach works best for me. I batch the data collection and initial review, then do detailed analysis account-by-account. Best of both worlds - efficiency plus thoroughness.
Batching definitely works better for multi-location retail chains. When you're looking at 50+ Xcel Energy accounts all on the same rate schedule, the patterns become obvious quickly.
