Working on updating our audit checklist and wondering what key items other folks include. Right now we have the basics - verify meter multipliers, check demand calculations, tariff verification. What am I missing that you always check?
Rick - definitely add power factor penalties to your list if you're not checking those already. Found $23K in incorrect PF charges at a manufacturing client last month with Duke Energy.
Good thread Rick. I also include verification of meter test dates and accuracy certificates, especially for larger commercial accounts. Some utilities let meters go past calibration dates.
All great suggestions. I'd add checking for correct application of time-of-use windows. Utilities sometimes have their clocks off or apply wrong seasonal TOU schedules. Worth verifying against your own interval data if you have it.
I always include a section for seasonal rate adjustments and make sure the utility is applying the correct schedule during transition periods. Caught ComEd using wrong rates during the April switchover.
Don't forget to verify any special contract terms if the customer has negotiated rates. Also check that tax exemptions are being applied correctly - found a church paying commercial taxes for 3 years.
