Ratchet clause elimination strategies

Looking for creative strategies to help clients deal with ratchet clauses. I have several manufacturing clients who had high demand months due to equipment startup issues, and now they're stuck paying elevated demand charges for the next year. Any success stories with ratchet reductions or eliminations?
Clifford, I've had some success getting utilities to waive ratchet charges for documented equipment malfunctions. Key is proving the high demand was due to abnormal circumstances, not normal operations. Need detailed maintenance records and sometimes third-party equipment analysis.
Brenda makes a good point. I've also seen success with utility demand response programs that can provide credits to offset ratchet charges. Not elimination, but can reduce the financial impact significantly.
Bob's suggestion about demand response is smart. Also consider if clients qualify for different rate schedules. Some utilities have industrial rates without ratchet clauses, though they may have higher base demand charges.
Larry, that's interesting about different rate schedules. I hadn't thought about that approach. Clifford, what utilities are your clients with? Some are more flexible than others about rate schedule changes.
Chad, I've found that municipal utilities are often more willing to work with customers on ratchet issues than investor-owned utilities. They have more flexibility in their rate structures and billing policies.
Chester's observation about municipal utilities matches my experience. They're often more customer-focused and willing to consider individual circumstances. Private utilities tend to stick more rigidly to tariff language.
