Quick question for the group. Have any of you successfully disputed ComEd demand charges where the customer has a special contract rate but ComEd was applying standard tariff demand charges? I have a client paying $16.50/kW under Rate 6L but their contract shows demand should be $14.25/kW.
ComEd demand charges - Contract vs Tariff rates
Sandra, I've seen this exact issue. ComEd's billing system doesn't always pick up contract amendments properly. You'll need to file a formal dispute with copies of the signed contract. What's the contract effective date?
Thanks Glen and Don. Contract was effective January 2012, so we're looking at over a year of incorrect billing. The difference is about $2,800 per month. Do you have a contact at ComEd's contract admin group Glen?
Update: I was wrong about the department name. It's actually called "Contract Services" at ComEd. Sandra, if you're still working on this, ask to speak with Contract Services when you call. They handle all special rate schedule billing issues.
Don's right about the billing system issues. I had a similar case last year - took 4 months to resolve but got the client $31,000 in refunds. Make sure you have the original contract AND any amendments. ComEd's contract admin group is separate from regular billing disputes.
Sandra, I don't have specific contacts anymore but start with their main commercial billing dispute line. Reference the contract number in your initial call - that should route you to the right department. Document everything.
