Quick question for the group - does Georgia Power use seasonal ratchets or year-round? I have a client on Schedule PL-1 and trying to understand if their summer peaks carry through the winter months or if it resets. The tariff language is not clear to me.
Seasonal Ratchet vs Year-Round - Georgia Power
Brenda, Georgia Power typically uses year-round ratchets on most commercial schedules. That summer peak will definitely carry through winter unless the account hits a higher peak. What's the actual demand been running?
Summer peak was 284 kW in July, now running about 190 kW in fall months. So they'll keep billing the 284 kW all winter?
Just wanted to follow up - I double checked the Georgia Power tariffs and confirmed Phil is right. Schedule PL-1 uses 12-month rolling ratchet with no seasonal reset.
Yes, that's correct. The 284 kW will be the billing demand until they exceed it or until 12 months pass from that July peak. Pretty standard for most utilities in the southeast.
