New Construction Wrong Rate from Day One - PSE&G Issues

Pam H. in Richmond - have a client with new medical facility in New Jersey that PSE&G put on residential Schedule R instead of small commercial from day one. The electrical contractor apparently checked wrong box on service application. Six months of incorrect billing at residential rates which are actually higher for their usage pattern. Anyone know PSE&G's process for correcting new service classifications?
Laura H. from Providence - dealt with similar issue with National Grid. New service applications are hard to correct because utilities assume electrical contractors know proper classifications. You'll need original building permits, certificate of occupancy showing commercial use, and detailed explanation of the error. Start with PSE&G's New Business department, not regular customer service.
Pam - this happens more than it should. Electrical contractors often don't understand rate implications of their service applications. PSE&G will correct new service classification errors but requires clear documentation that it was application error, not customer-requested change. Submit business license, commercial insurance documentation, and signed affidavit from the electrical contractor acknowledging the mistake. Randy D.
Patricia O. in Richmond too - we see this with Dominion Virginia Power occasionally. New commercial buildings get residential rates because contractors use standard applications. The key is acting quickly before usage patterns establish billing history. Pam, how much is the rate difference costing monthly?
Patricia - they're paying about $320 extra monthly because residential Schedule R has higher energy charges above 1000kWh. Medical facility uses 3500kWh monthly with very flat load profile. Should be on Schedule GLP commercial rate. Will gather documentation Randy suggested. Pam H.
Faye H. from Lynchburg - had similar situation with new veterinary clinic and Appalachian Power. They corrected billing back to service start date once we proved contractor error. Don't let PSE&G claim it's too late to correct. New service classification errors are different from customer-requested changes. Fight for full retroactive adjustment.
Update - PSE&G agreed to reclassify after reviewing our documentation. Getting retroactive billing adjustment back to service connection date. $1,920 credit plus ongoing monthly savings. Thanks for pushing on the retroactive angle Faye. Pam H.
