Working with a greenhouse operation in New Jersey that should qualify for PSE&G Schedule AG (agricultural rate). Client grows hydroponic vegetables year-round, but PSE&G claims greenhouse operations don't meet their agricultural definition. Rate PA (general service) is costing them an extra $800/month. Has anyone dealt with PSE&G agricultural classifications recently? - Gail P.
Agricultural rate eligibility - PSE&G pushing back hard
Gail, what's the specific language in PSE&G's tariff for agricultural qualification? Most utilities require either livestock operations or crop production directly from soil. Hydroponic might be the sticking point even though it's clearly agricultural production. - Margaret C.
Margaret, PSE&G Schedule AG says "bona fide agricultural operations including crop production and livestock." Doesn't specifically exclude hydroponic but they're interpreting it narrowly. I've got USDA documentation showing hydroponic vegetable production qualifies as agriculture federally. - Gail P.
