Kevin N. in Mobile, AL. Working with Alabama Power's Rate CT and trying to understand exactly what equipment gets included in the coincident peak calculation for transmission charges. Client has backup generators that occasionally run during peak hours - do those count toward the CT ratio even if they're reducing grid demand?
Rate Schedule CT ratios - what counts toward coincident peak?
Roy H. from Birmingham here. Alabama Power measures CT at the point of interconnection, so backup generators running behind the meter actually help your ratio by reducing your contribution to system peak. The key is timing - if your generators are running during the monthly system peak hour, you get credit for that demand reduction.
