PSC docket search tips for pending rate changes

Carl N. from Denver. I've been trying to stay ahead of Xcel Energy rate changes by monitoring PUC dockets but their search system is terrible. Anyone have good strategies for finding relevant filings before they hit the tariff books? Missing these changes is costing my clients money when rates jump without warning.
Beatrice S. in Salem, OR. Oregon's PUC has email alerts you can set up for specific utility dockets. Also try searching by filing type - "advice letters" usually contain the smaller rate adjustments while "rate case" filings are the big changes. Most states update their websites weekly so check every Friday.
Randy Dawson here from Memphis. Great question Carl. Here's my systematic approach: 1) Set up Google Alerts for "[Utility Name] rate case" and "[State] PUC filing", 2) Check the utility's investor relations page monthly - they often announce rate filings there first, 3) Follow local utility reporters on Twitter, and 4) Join the state association of utility consumers if one exists. Colorado has particularly active consumer advocacy groups that track these things. Also bookmark the PUC's "Recent Filings" page and check it weekly - much easier than using their search function.
Cliff W. from Reno. NV Energy just hit us with a 12% increase that I completely missed. Their docket was filed 6 months ago but buried in a generic "annual adjustment" filing. Now I'm scrambling to help clients understand why their bills jumped. Randy's suggestion about investor relations pages is gold - they have to disclose material rate changes to shareholders.
Chuck B. in Peoria, IL. ComEd publishes a monthly "Tariff Update Newsletter" that's incredibly useful. Not sure if other utilities do this but worth checking. Also found that calling the utility's regulatory affairs department directly sometimes gets you advance notice of filings - they're usually willing to talk to consultants.
Thanks everyone, especially Randy for the systematic approach. Just signed up for Google Alerts and found three Xcel filings from last month I completely missed. Chuck, I'll call Xcel's regulatory team tomorrow - great suggestion.
Eddie K. in North Las Vegas. This thread is incredibly helpful. Just went through NV Energy's investor page like Randy suggested and found notice of a demand charge restructuring coming in Q2 2024. Would have blindsided my commercial clients without this heads up.
