MLGW just implemented their 6% rate increase here in Memphis. Pretty reasonable compared to what I'm seeing elsewhere. But they also changed their billing cycle methodology and I'm seeing some weird prorations on accounts that cross rate effective dates. Anyone else dealing with MLGW billing system quirks?
MLGW Memphis - 6% increase but weird billing changes
Roy - I've got about 50 MLGW accounts and yes, the billing system changes are causing issues. They switched from calendar month billing to actual meter read cycles, which means some December bills include usage from both the old and new rate periods. I found one account billed at the wrong rate for 8 days of usage.
Beverly's right about the proration problems. I caught three accounts where they applied the full new rate to usage that was partially under the old rate period. MLGW customer service acknowledged the error but said it might take 2-3 billing cycles to correct. That's unacceptable for a major utility.
Calvin, are you filing formal complaints or just working through customer service? I've got one client overpaid by about $3,500 due to the proration error and customer service keeps giving me the runaround about when it'll be corrected.
For anything over $2,000 I go straight to the Tennessee Regulatory Authority. MLGW responds much faster when the TRA is asking questions. File a formal complaint - it's worth the paperwork for larger amounts.
