Question for the group. Eversource customer in Hartford has secondary network service. Tariff shows different discount rates for network vs radial secondary. Customer was classified as radial (getting smaller discount) but I think they're actually on network. How do you verify this?
Eversource - Secondary network vs radial service discounts
Network service typically feeds from multiple transformers/feeders for reliability. Check if customer location has redundant feeds. Eversource should have documentation showing network topology. Rate G-2 vs G-1 I think.
Also look at the service entrance equipment. Network service usually requires network protectors. If you see those devices, it's definitely network service and should get the higher discount rate.
Had similar issue in Connecticut. Eversource will do a service investigation if you request it. They'll verify the actual configuration and correct the rate classification if needed.
Service investigation confirmed network service. Rate change from G-1 to G-2 increased the voltage discount from 2.1% to 4.8%. Refund check for $8,950 covering 24 months. Thanks for the guidance everyone!
Service configuration verification is crucial for proper rate classification. Many utilities have customers on incorrect rates due to poor record keeping during service installations or modifications.
