Multi-tenant office building in Orlando considering rooftop solar. Duke Energy Florida has virtual net metering program but I'm confused about how the billing works. Building has master meter plus individual tenant meters. How are the solar credits allocated? Anyone worked with Duke VNM?
Duke Energy Florida virtual net metering - how does billing work?
Mike - Duke's VNM allows allocation of credits to designated accounts. Building owner decides the percentage allocation to each tenant meter. Credits are applied at retail rate. Pretty straightforward once you file the VNM application.
Beth's mostly right but there's a catch - Duke charges administrative fees for VNM accounts. $25/month per participating meter I think. Make sure the solar credits exceed the admin fees or it's not worth it for smaller tenants.
Good point about admin fees. Building has 12 tenant meters so that's $300/month in fees. Solar production is about 180,000 kWh/year so credits should easily cover the fees.
Update: Filed Duke VNM application last week. 45-day processing time. Will report back on how smooth the billing integration goes.
