PSE&G smart meter rollout caused massive billing errors

Had a client in Newark whose electric bill tripled overnight when PSE&G switched from old mechanical to AMI meters. The smart meter was reading in kilowatt-hours but billing system was treating readings as kilowatt-demand. Took 4 months to get corrected. Anyone else seeing meter conversion billing glitches?
Arizona Public Service had similar issues during their AMI rollout. The problem is usually in the meter data management system not the meters themselves. Always request interval data when you suspect conversion problems.
Alabama Power botched their smart meter installs at 3 of my clients. Old mechanical meters had 4:1 CT ratios that weren't programmed into the new AMI units. Bills were 75% too low for 6 months before they caught it.
Dominion Energy Virginia had the opposite problem. Smart meters were multiplying by CT ratios twice. $127,000 overbilling at one manufacturing plant before we figured it out.
Westar Energy in Kansas actually handled their conversion pretty well. They sent techs to verify all CT settings matched between old and new meters. Only billing error I found was a demand ratchet that didn't carry over properly.
Smart meter conversions are prime territory for billing errors. Always audit the first 6 months after meter replacement. Check CT ratios, demand multipliers, and rate schedule assignments. The savings potential is enormous.
