Akron client asked me to review their FirstEnergy bill. Spent week analyzing distribution charges thinking that was the whole bill. Turns out they're with a retail supplier for generation. The distribution charges were correct but I missed the supply comparison completely.

Ohio deregulation makes auditing tricky. You have to analyze both the distribution utility charges AND the supplier contract. Two separate audits really.
Arkansas is still regulated so I don't deal with this, but I've heard horror stories about Ohio supplier switches that doubled bills.
Exactly. The distribution charges were fine but the supplier was charging 12 cents/kWh vs 6 cents for standard service. That's where the real money was.
